The East African University Rwanda (EAUR) was honored to host a delegation from the National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) on November 3rd, 2025. The visit aimed to assess EAUR’s Resource Room and engage in meaningful discussions with Students with Disabilities (SWDs) regarding accessibility, inclusion, and support services within the institution.
On the following day, November 4th, 2025, the Executive Secretary of NCPD visited EAUR to further evaluate the Students Support Centre (Resource Room) and hold high-level discussions with the University’s senior management team. The visit reaffirmed EAUR’s commitment to fostering an inclusive academic environment that supports equal learning opportunities for all students.
During the two-day engagement, the NCPD delegation made several key recommendations, including:
- Strengthening staff training on disability inclusion and inclusive teaching practices.
- Upgrading assistive equipment and learning technologies to better support students with disabilities.
- Enhancing physical accessibility across all campus facilities.
- Promoting EAUR’s commitment to inclusion through public outreach, awareness campaigns, and educational materials.
- Encouraging collaboration with local authorities and model schools to share best practices in disability inclusion.
EAUR expresses its sincere gratitude to the ANSWER Project, Co-Funded by the European Union, for initiating and supporting the Inclusive Education Programme in Higher Learning Institutions and additionally supporting and funding the establishment of Accessibility support centres. This transformative initiative has laid a strong foundation for promoting accessibility, equity, and empowerment of students with disabilities across universities in Rwanda.
EAUR remains deeply committed to sustaining these efforts and working closely with the NCPD, the ANSWER Project, and other stakeholders to advance inclusion and ensure that every student can reach their full potential.
