On June 26th, our project coordinator, the University of Alicante, showcased its commitment with inclusion through the renewal of a convention with Hidraqua, a private enterprise that deals with water management. The convention aims to improve physical spaces and cultural activities, by adapting them to people with functional or intellectual disabilities, as well as collaborating in corporate social responsibility.
The rector of the University of Alicante, Amparo Navarro, and the CEO of Hidraqua, Jordi Azorín, have signed the renewal of the current agreement between both institutions, which started in 2021 within the program “INCLUA-Cultura”, aimed at making the visual and performing arts and sports inclusive and accessible for people with disabilities.
The agreement specifies that the UA will program cultural activities in which accessibility is an important component, such as sign language, subtitling of plays, and services for people with hearing impairments. Hidraqua CEO, Jordi Azorín, stated that "the renewal of this agreement further demonstrates our company's commitment to universities, education, training, and talent. Creating alliances with the UA and other institutions in the Valencian Community to promote culture is one of our main objectives, and even more so if it involves working together on joint initiatives that contribute to making museums more accessible and thus guaranteeing access for people with functional or intellectual disabilities."
In conclusion, it became clearer that consortium partner’s are truly committed to the cause, as this agreement is only a part of the bigger piece, which is the full inclusion of people with disabilities in the educational system and everyday life. The University of Alicante has marked a milestone in his educational journey by improving the university museum (MUA) to their necessities, and thus making the culture available for everyone. Then, UA is aligned with the objectives of ANSWER Project, trespassing the project workframe and achieving a real inclusion.
