Arturo Martínez will carry out legal research on the decarbonisation of energy consumption in Spain following the award ceremony held last Wednesday in Madrid.
Arturo Martínez, a doctoral student at the University of Alicante (UA), has been awarded one of the grants from the first edition of Fundación ONCE’s “Investiga” Scholarship Programme, an initiative aimed at fostering the academic and research careers of university students with disabilities. The award ceremony took place today, 18 February, in Madrid at the Fundación ONCE Hub.
The call, co-funded by the European Social Fund, seeks to strengthen inclusion within the scientific sphere and remove the barriers that hinder access to and continuity in research careers for people with disabilities. In this first edition, ten pre-doctoral and four post-doctoral grants have been awarded, with a total budget of €300,000.
Thanks to this funding, Martínez — who completed his Law degree at the UA — will be able to develop his doctoral thesis entitled “The Effective Energy Transition: Legal Instruments for the Decarbonisation of Direct Energy Consumption in Spain,” within the field of legal studies. The project will analyse the regulatory and legislative instruments required to move towards a more sustainable energy model, addressing from a legal perspective the challenges of the energy transition and the reduction of emissions in direct consumption.
The ceremony was attended by the UA’s Vice-Rector for Students and Employability, Raúl Ruiz Callado, and the Director of the Employment Promotion and Social Inclusion Service, Esther Gallego, who accompanied the researcher at this recognition.
The University of Alicante highlighted the importance of this distinction, which not only endorses Arturo Martínez’s academic excellence but also reflects the institution’s commitment to promoting talent and research among students with disabilities.
For his part, the grant recipient emphasised the support he has received from the UA throughout his studies and expressed his intention to continue his professional career in research:
“One of the reasons I am pursuing a PhD is that I want to remain in this institution, where I have always felt supported. My time at university has been the best period of my life and I would also like to contribute my effort and knowledge,” said Arturo Martínez.
