Every year on 7 October, the world celebrates the World Day for Decent Work, an initiative launched by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) to call for respect, dignity, and fair conditions for all workers. The campaign, supported by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and thousands of trade unions and organisations around the world, reminds us that decent work is a right, not a privilege.
ANSWER joins the ITUC’s call by highlighting a crucial and still pending issue: the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the labour market.
Ensuring decent work means much more than receiving a fair salary. It means being able to access job opportunities on equal terms, participate fully in society, and exercise the right to an autonomous and dignified life. Yet, people with disabilities continue to face multiple barriers — physical, social, and structural — that limit their employment opportunities and professional growth.
According to the ILO, more than 80% of persons with disabilities of working age do not have formal employment, especially in regions where inclusive policies and workplace accessibility remain insufficient.
At ANSWER, we firmly believe that no society can call itself fair or sustainable if it leaves part of its population behind. That is why the inclusion of persons with disabilities is not just a goal but a core principle guiding our work. We support projects that promote accessible workplaces, adapted training, and awareness among employers to break down persisting stigmas.
Decent work is not a privilege — it is a right. Building a world where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can contribute their talent and reach their full potential is at the heart of ANSWER’s mission.
