NCPD visit to INES-Ruhengeri

From October 27 to 28, 2025, a delegation from the National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) visited INES-Ruhengeri to assess the university’s efforts in fostering inclusion for students with disabilities.

Welcomed by Fr. Dr. BARIBESHYA Jean Bosco, Vice-Chancellor of INES-Ruhengeri, the team led by Mr. NDAYISABA Emmanuel, Executive Secretary of NCPD aimed at engaging students with disabilities and review the institution’s progress in building an inclusive learning environment.

The mission formed part of the ANSWER Project, which is being implemented in three Rwandan universities — the University of Rwanda (UR, INES-Ruhengeri, and East African University Rwanda (EAUR).

At INES, the NCPD delegation toured the Student Support Centre established through the project, examined the accessibility of campus facilities, and interacted directly with students to better understand their experiences.

During discussions with the ANSWER Project team, participants reflected on the progress achieved and the remaining challenges in supporting students with disabilities. The dialogue emphasized the key role of the Student Support Centre in promoting awareness, advocating for inclusion, and providing assistive devices where needed.

Students expressed appreciation for the opportunity to share their experiences and acknowledged the Centre’s positive impact in helping them feel recognized and supported within the INES community.

The NCPD delegation commended INES-Ruhengeri for its strong commitment to advancing inclusive education through accessible infrastructure, empowered support services, and continuous awareness-raising among staff and students.
