The second edition of the Pilot Training on Disability and Inclusion within the framework of the ANSWER Project was succesfully held at INES-Ruhengeri, Civil Engineering Hall, Musanze Town, Rwanda, from 26-27 March 2025. Under the title “The Effective Way Forward in the Journey of Inclusion in Higher Education in Rwanda,” the two-day training brought together a diverse group of stakeholders committed to fostering more inclusive practices within the Rwandan higher education system.
👥 Participants
The event welcomed a total of 70 participants, including:
- 24 academic staff
- 25 administrative staff
- 12 students (3 of whom were students with disabilities)
- 3 NGO representatives
- 5 public sector representatives
- 1 private sector representative
This cross-sectoral representation fostered a dynamic and collaborative environment throughout the training.

Participants engaged in interactive sessions addressing:
- Challenges and barriers faced by students with disabilities
- Implementation of inclusive teaching methodologies
- Use of assistive technologies to support academic inclusion
- Group discussions and case studies focused on institutional change and community engagement
💬 Inspiring Contributions
The training was formally opened by representatives of DVCAR, and featured an impactful session led by Bahati Satir Omar, Founder of Uwezo Youth Empowerment, who shared powerful insights into the role of empowerment and innovation in advancing disability inclusion.
🎯 Impact and Outlook
This training marks a significant step in the ongoing mission of the ANSWER project to create inclusive, equitable, and accessible learning environments in Rwandan higher education institutions. The strategies and reflections generated during the sessions will inform future pilot activities and institutional reforms across partner universities.
